Kleen Bin is the leading South African Refuse Bin Cleaning Franchise “in
operation for over 20 years

Kleen Bin Houghton

Kleen Bin came into being in 1997 and was the first bin cleaning company in South Africa to patent its own trailer-based, mobile washing equipment. We provide cleaning services to private residences and a variety of commercial operations and public institutions.

Central to the Kleen Bin operation is the mobile cleaning unit which is capable of cleaning more than 200 bins per day.

After Pikitup has emptied the refuse bins the bins are generally left scattered around, filthy, and foul smelling. The bins are rarely cleaned and, even if they are, the cleaning methods used result in a wastage of water and cleaning materials. A bin that is not cleaned properly remains bacteria ridden, which is conducive to the spread of diseases.

Cleaning a 240-litre refuse bin is not easy for the average size person and “Elbow Grease” is required when attempting to clean the bin. Furthermore, users are generally not informed of the local bylaws, so they dump contaminated water into the storm water drainage system.

This poses a health risk and has a significant impact on the environment. There is also a general lack of standards, particularly in the food and health industries as well as the environment.

Through a combination of water under pressure and cleaning detergents, the patented mobile Kleen Bin machine can clean up to four bins at one time. It operates by spraying a strong jet of water mixed with the detergent, into the bins, which are mounted upside down on the frame of the machine. This has proved to be a very efficient and effective means of cleaning soiled refuse bins. It has further proved cost effective as the machine filters and uses recycled water. Only SABS approved and CSIR tested, bio-degradable detergents are used during the cleaning process, which ensures that the environment is not damaged during or after the cleaning process.

Here’s what some of our clients have to say:

“Just want to say thank you for the super service your chaps do in 8th Ave., Parktown North. Often our collection is only done on the late afternoon, in which your chaps clear our bins, clean them, and leave them at the gate. Wishing you all well over the holiday season” – Elsabe

“WHAT A MAGNIFICENT SCENT! I just arrived home to find my beautiful- smelling bin at the gate… scented with a new fragrance! I love the change and the lemon is so much more inviting that the previous, strong medicinal smell (although that too gave great comfort in the sterile cleanliness of your service!) Thank you for this new addition in 2019! Its lovely! Well done to a great team! We appreciate your service so much!” – Michelle

“Please may I take this opportunity in thanking you for today. Pikitup did not collect our rubbish and your staff put everything in bags – they asked if they could – then all the bags were then put onto your vehicle, and you took them with you!!!!!! This is really incredible service, and we thank you.” – Karen

“Hello, very happy with your service. Your team is professional & your products are fab & smell delicious. I’m one of those annoying clean people so your service is a happy purchase Best!” – Busi

“The Kleen Bin team who clean our bins in Craighall are incredibly efficient and hard-working. They are a pleasure to deal with. They always take away any rubbish that might have accumulated during the day while the bins were outside, which is much appreciated. They are always friendly, even when they’re working late into the evening.” – David O’Sullivan

“We are very happy with the service that we receive from Kleen Bin. The team provides an outstanding and very efficient service and are always polite and friendly. They continue to exceed our expectations.” – Anita Bybee

DID YOU KNOW

DID YOU KNOW

A wheelie bin that is empty but still stinks is a clear sign that the bin has a good build-up of dirt that is going mouldy or that bacteria is starting to grow

The build-up and the smell create favourable conditions for the breeding of flies, maggots, cockroaches, and rodents. In turn, these parasites encourage the spread of disease and sickness. In addition, various bacteria, mould, and spores can be harboured in these bins, including:

  • Enterobacteriaceae is a family of bacteria, which includes salmonella, shigella and E. coli. They are responsible for both mild and life-threatening infections in children and adults.
  • Staphylococcus infections are highly contagious. While they mainly affect the skin with boils and blisters, they can also cause serious internal discomfort.
  • Proteus Vulgaris organisms are implicated as a serious cause of various infections in humans

Domestic workers or garden service workers who wash out refuse bins using hosepipes, wasting water, and polluting dams, rivers, streams, and underground water resources are directly infringing and breaking a number of the Sanitation Bi-Laws and inadvertently polluting our water resource system and spreading disease.

  • Please note that ADMISSION OF GUILT FINES have been determined for the above-mentioned offences and the zero tolerance principle will apply (zero tolerance per definition means that people will be prosecuted without any notice and, or warning.)

A dirty wheelie bin can attract vermin, cause offensive odours, become infested with flies, and rapidly become a health hazard right outside your home! It is therefore vital that your wheelie bin is kept clean and hygienic!
